Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka

Uva Wellassa University (UWU), established in June 2005, is a prestigious national university in Sri Lanka and the country’s first dedicatedentrepreneurial university. Located in the scenic mountainous region of Badulla, approximately 2 kilometers from the city on the Passara Road, the campus is known for its natural beauty and serene environment. It was founded with a unique strategic theme: "Value Addition to the National Resource Base," focusing on providing students with market-oriented education that serves the country's economic development. As of 2025, the university operates five primary faculties: Animal Science & Export Agriculture, Applied Sciences, Management, Technological Studies, and the recently established Faculty of Medicine. These academic powerhouses offer over 18 multidisciplinary degree programs designed in collaboration with industry partners to ensure high employability. All courses are conducted in English and emphasize broad general education alongside specialized technical and entrepreneurial skills to produce "job providers" rather than just "job seekers". Research and innovation are central to the university's mission, supported by annual events like the International Research Conference (IRC). The institution hosts a student population of over 5,000 as of late 2025, and its graduates consistently achieve high employment rates across both state and private sectors.
