Acceptance of terms
These terms apply when you use certdirectory.io ("CertDirectory", "we"). By creating an account or using the site, you agree to them and to our privacy policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
Description of the service
CertDirectory is a directory of professionals and their certifications. Members can:
- show their certifications from Credly, Microsoft Learn and CertDirectory Credentials on a public profile;
- set certification goals;
- find and offer mentoring;
- join company, school and group pages;
- create and attend events;
- write blog posts and take part in the feed;
- message other members;
- set up an AI clone that answers questions about their public profile;
- create developer API keys.
Everyone can browse public profiles, events, the blog and certification discounts.
The service is free. We may change, add or remove features. We tell members about significant changes.
User accounts
- You sign in with Google, GitHub or LinkedIn. Keep that account secure: anyone who can sign in to it can sign in to CertDirectory as you.
- You must be at least 16, and you may have only one account.
- Keep your details accurate, and do not pretend to be someone else or claim an affiliation you do not have.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has used it, sign out everywhere from Settings and tell us.
Your responsibilities
You agree to use CertDirectory lawfully and respectfully. In particular:
- Credentials: list only certifications you really hold. We show the records from the issuers you connect. Do not try to make a certification appear that you do not have.
- Mentoring: mentoring is an arrangement between members. CertDirectory does not employ, check or guarantee mentors or mentees.
- Communities:
- Claim a company or school page only if you are entitled to manage it.
- Invite people only to pages you manage, and only people who would expect to hear from you.
- Messages: do not send spam, harassment or unwanted promotion.
- Reporting: you can report a member, a message or an AI clone answer. We review reports and may act on them.
Your content
You keep ownership of what you post: your profile, posts, comments, messages and uploads.
You give CertDirectory a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, show and share that content on the site and through its features, as your settings allow. For example, your public profile appears in the directory, in search engines if you allow it, and through the developer API. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account. Copies in backups end within 14 days, and content others have already shared or quoted may remain.
You confirm that you have the right to post what you post. You must not post content that:
- is unlawful, defamatory, hateful or harassing;
- infringes someone else's rights, including copyright and privacy;
- contains malware, or misleading or deceptive material;
- reveals other people's personal data without their permission.
We may remove content, or restrict an account, that breaks these terms.
Public profiles
Your profile is public. You choose which optional tabs visitors see and whether search engines may list your profile. Your email address is never shown. We cannot control what others do with information you choose to make public.
AI clones
- An AI clone is an AI assistant, not the member. Its answers are generated automatically, can be wrong, and are not statements by the member or by CertDirectory.
- If you set up a clone, you use your own key with an AI provider. You are responsible for that account and its costs, and for following the provider's terms. You can pause or remove the clone at any time.
- If you ask a clone, do not share personal information. Daily limits apply.
Discounts
- We list certification discounts and codes that providers and partners publish. We check them, but we cannot guarantee that a code works, or that a price or offer is current. The provider's own terms apply to any purchase.
- Some links are affiliate links: we may earn a commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you.
Developer API
- API keys are personal: keep them secret and on a server, never in a web page.
- The API returns only what a visitor can see on a profile. Respect the rate limits, use the data for the purpose you created the key for, and do not use it to build a copy of the directory or to contact members without their consent.
- We may revoke a key that is misused or leaked.
Intellectual property
The site, its design, software, text and logos belong to CertDirectory or its licensors. You may not copy, reproduce or distribute them without our written permission, except as these terms allow. Certification names and badges belong to their issuers.
Limits on use
You agree not to:
- scrape the site or use automated tools to collect data, except through the developer API within its limits;
- try to get around rate limits, security measures or access controls, or access accounts or data that are not yours;
- interfere with the site's operation, or overload it;
- reverse engineer the service, except where the law allows it;
- use the site to send spam or for any unlawful purpose.
Ending access
- You can delete your account at any time in Settings > Account.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, harms other members, or puts the service at risk. Where it is reasonable, we will tell you why. You can ask us to reconsider by emailing info@certdirectory.io.
Notifications and communications
- Service emails: we send emails that are part of the service, such as sign-in and account messages, and replies to your mentoring requests.
- Activity emails: for other emails, you choose in Settings which you receive, and every such email has an unsubscribe link.
- No marketing: we do not send marketing emails without your consent.
Limitation of liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Subject to that:
- CertDirectory is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of profits, business, goodwill or data, arising from your use of the site.
- CertDirectory is not liable for what other members or third parties do or post, including mentors, event organisers, discount providers and AI providers.
- Because the service is free, our total liability to you is limited to £100.
If you use the site as a consumer, you also have rights under UK consumer law that these terms do not affect.
Disclaimer of warranties
The site is provided "as is" and "as available". We work to keep it accurate, secure and available, but we do not promise that it will always be available or free of errors. We also do not promise that information on it is complete or current, whether added by members, imported from issuers or provided by partners.
Indemnification
If you use the site in breach of these terms or the law, or infringe someone else's rights, you agree to cover CertDirectory's reasonable costs and losses that result, including claims by others.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Disputes are decided by the courts of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU as a consumer, you may also bring a claim in the courts where you live.
Changes to these terms
When we change these terms, we update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we tell members by email or on the site before it takes effect. Continuing to use the site after that means you accept the new terms.
